Fantasy football Week 9 waiver wire: With Henry out, who's up next for Titans?

With all the excitement around Tuesday’s trade deadline, don’t forget to scout out your waiver wire wish list. Considering the Buccaneers, Lions, Seahawks, and Washington are all on bye this week, there’s a significant amount of talent set to be benched.

Below are several widely available waiver options and top defences to stream to help you on your way to the fantasy playoffs. As always, hit me up with any fantasy football questions on Twitter using #AskAndy.

Jeremy McNichols, RB, Titans
Yahoo! Ownership: 10%
Draft Kings salary: N/A

DISASTER! Fantasy football’s MVP, Derrick Henry, is off to injured reserve with a possibly season-ending foot injury. There’s obviously no coming close to replacing King Henry, so how will the Titans handle this situation?

The best immediate choice is the only other healthy running back on the roster: McNichols. Tennessee also signed semi-retired Adrian Peterson, with the general thinking that he will be used sparingly Sunday evening as he gets acclimated to the offence.

McNichols has popped into double-digit FPT territory twice in Weeks 3 and 4 in his limited role as third down pass-catcher. We’ll have to see how he handles more carries against a Rams defence that’s given up the 10th most fantasy points to running backs.

This Titans backfield situation could easily turn into an ugly committee-based situation.

Other running back options to consider picking up: Michael Carter (Jets; 68 per cent rostered), Carlos Hyde (Jaguars; seven per cent)

Allen Lazard, WR, Packers
Yahoo! Ownership: 7%
Draft Kings salary: $4,600

The response from fantasy managers to the loss of Green Bay tight end Robert Tonyan should not be to pick up leftover backups Marcedes Lewis and Josiah Degura. Instead, look to the returning Lazard against Kansas City this Sunday and beyond.

Living in the shadow of Davante Adams, Lazard’s quietly collected a touchdown in each of his past two outings. During that stretch he totalled eight receptions on 11 targets and averaged 14.35 FPTs. Of course, Aaron Rodgers could simply up his targets to Adams and/or Marquez Valdes-Scantling (when he returns from IR), but I still feel Lazard is a smart depth pickup who can fill in a WR-3/Flex spot.

Other wide receiver options to consider picking up: Van Jefferson (Rams; 13 per cent rostered), Hunter Renfrow (Raiders; 42 per cent rostered)

Tyler Conklin, TE, Vikings
Yahoo! Ownership: 25%
Draft Kings salary: $3,000

Conklin is currently the 15th-ranked tight end in PPR, which just shows you can find a serviceable streamer at the position off waivers. Do I feel he is going to explode into a superstar? No. But has he shown to be a growing part of Minnesota’s offence? Yes. Consecutive games of 10.10 or more FPTs and 12 total targets over that time makes him one of the better options at this time of the season.

Conklin’s next pair of matchups will see him battle squads that are allowing the most (Ravens) and third most (Chargers) fantasy points to tight ends.

Other tight end options to consider picking up: Dawson Knox (Bills; 66 per cent rostered), Pat Freiermuth (Steelers; 11 per cent)

Top defences to stream for Week 9

● Indianapolis Colts (vs. New York Jets)
● Dallas Cowboys (vs. Denver Broncos)
● Buffalo Bills (at Jacksonville Jaguars)
● Arizona Cardinals (at San Francisco 49ers)
