Trevor Lawrence's season is over over.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Wednesday that they have placed the quarterback on injured reserve. Later Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Lawrence is expected to have surgery on his significant AC joint injury in his left shoulder in the coming weeks, which would officially end his season.
Rapoport added that Lawrence will make a full recovery in time for the 2025 season.
Lawrence suffered a concussion in Week 13 when he was the recipient of the late hit that got Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair suspended for three games Tuesday. In addition to the head injury, the 25-year-old suffered the AC joint sprain in Week 9 that caused him to miss two consecutive games before Sunday.
The 2021 first-overall pick has had a modest season by his standards, throwing for 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Jaguars are 2-8 in his 10 starts.
The IR designation does open the door for a potential Week 18 return. However, it seems highly unlikely due to the nature of Lawrence's injuries and the Jags currently holding the top pick in the draft.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo also reported that Jacksonville has claimed former Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds off waivers.
Reynolds was waived Tuesday by Denver after signing a two-year deal this past off-season. The 29-year-old has been on IR after suffering a hand injury in Week 5.
He provides much-needed depth at a position ravaged by injuries for the Jaguars. Jacksonville lost starters Gabe Davis and Christian Kirk earlier in the year to season-ending injuries.
