The Jacksonville Jaguars may get some reinforcement for a must-win match against Tennessee Titans.
Wideout Christian Kirk has been activated off the injury reserve list, the Jaguars announced on Wednesday morning, and anticipate he will return to practice this week. Kirk has been out of action since suffering a core muscle injury in Week 13.
Kirk was initially anticipated to miss six to eight weeks after he underwent surgery for his injury, yet now has a chance to help Jacksonville clinch the AFC South on Sunday just four weeks later.
The 27-year-old has been excellent since he joined the Jaguars last year, snagging 141 catches while racking up nearly 1,900 yards and 11 touchdowns.
His possible return would provide a massive boost for the sputtering Jaguars (9-7), who have lost four out of their last five games, but got a much-needed win against the Carolina Panthers to continue to lead the AFC South with three teams vying for the divisional title.
With the Houston Texans (9-7) battling the Indianapolis Colts (9-7) on Saturday in a crucial matchup, the Jaguars are in complete control of their own destiny. If they win on Sunday, they win the division and clinch their playoff berth.
If they lose, they'll need the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos to win their matchups, as well as pray the Colts and Texans game doesn't end in a tie, to sneak into the post-season.
Franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence is still a question mark for Sunday's game, as he missed his first game of his career last week with a plethora of injuries sustained this season.
Head coach Doug Pederson was optimistic about Lawrence playing.
"We'll see how he is this week, obviously," Pederson told reporters after the Jaguars win on Sunday. "He'll do everything he can to try to get back out there, if possible."
The Jaguars are 3-0 vs. the Titans since Pederson took the head coaching job in Florida, including a Week 18 win against them last year that clinched the Jags the AFC South.
