Ja’Marr Chase was back on the field, providing the Cincinnati Bengals with some positive news ahead of their season opener.
Wednesday marked the first time Chase participated fully in practice with the media in attendance. The star receiver appeared in two practice sessions that were closed to the public but has been watching the past three practices in street clothes.
The Bengals open the season against the New England Patriots. It is not known if Chase intends to play in the game as he continues to push for a big contract extension.
The 24-year-old Chase is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal. The Bengals picked up his fifth-year option in April.
Chase, who was a teammate of Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow at LSU in 2019, has 268 receptions for 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns, leading the team in every category in each of the past three seasons.
Last season, Chase had a career-high 100 receptions, tying for the second most in a season in team history, for 1,216 yards and seven TDs.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor did say that Chase could still suit up against the Patriots even though he didn't practice at all this week.
It has been reported that Chase is seeking a deal that would make him the highest-paid receiver in the league. Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson currently makes the most at $35 million per season.
