The Lions are keeping their dynamic backfield tandem around for the long haul.
Detroit has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with running back David Montgomery, keeping him with the team through the 2027 season, the team announced Saturday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter erported that the deal is worth $18.25 million and includes $10.5 million in new guaranteed money.
Montgomery, 27, has been the other half of the Lions' fearsome backfield alongside second-year star Jahmyr Gibbs. He has 271 yards and four touchdowns through Detroit first four games of the season. He also also added 94 receiving yards on nine receptions.
He joined the Lions in the 2023 season and picked up 1,015 yards in 14 games with 13 rushing touchdowns.
He was originally selected by the Chicago Bears in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has picked up 4,895 yards and 43 rushing touchdowns in 78 games over his six-year career.
