Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins underwent an MRI Monday that confirmed an Achilles tendon tear, the team announced.
The exact timeline and details for his upcoming surgery will be determined this week, the team adds.
Cousins suffered the tear in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win against the Green Bay Packers after getting sacked for a second straight play, but it appeared the injury occurred before anyone made contact with him.
The Vikings are on a three-game win streak after defeating the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Packers without star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who has been out of the lineup with a hamstring injury.
Cousins' injury comes as he was in the midst of one of his best seasons. He had thrown 18 touchdown passes with only five interceptions, leading the Vikings to a 4-4 record.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for Thursday's game against Tennessee Titans, but says quarterback Kenny Pickett could play.
Fitzpatrick sustained a hamstring injury while Pickett left with a rib injury in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tomlin said there is no structural damage to Pickett's ribs.
The Steelers enter the matchup against the Titans with a 4-3 record, tied for last in the AFC North Division.
LOS ANGELES RAMS
The Rams got some good news on Tuesday as injured starter Matthew Stafford's x-rays came back negative and he was diagnosed with a UCL sprain, per head coach Sean McVay.
Stafford is being listed as day to day. With the veteran's status in question for Week 9, McVay said the team will look at adding to their quarterback room.
The Rams fell to 3-5 after Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.
NEW YORK GIANTS
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been cleared for contact and is expected to practice Wednesday, according to head coach Brian Daboll.
Jones sustained a neck injury during a Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He exited the game, was replaced by Tyrod Taylor and has been out of the lineup ever since.
Taylor exited Sunday's 13-10 overtime loss to the Jets and was taken to a local hospital due to a rib injury where he spent the night. The veteran signal caller was discharged from hospital on Monday and is considered week-to-week, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Tommy DeVito replaced Taylor under centre on Sunday.
The Giants fell to 2-6 on the year, and go up against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.
New York traded Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. They'll receive 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 third rounder.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo Monday.
Bourne was emerging as the Patriots' go-to receiving threat after the team's rough offensive start to the season, hauling in 19 receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns over the last three games.
The Patriots enter their Week 9 matchup against the Washington Commanders with a 2-6 record.
