The sky is falling in Dallas in more ways than one.
The Cowboys lost 34-10 Monday night against the Houston Texans, extending their losing streak to five games and their home losing streak to six. To add insult to injury, AT&T Stadium had pieces of the roof fall off before kickoff, almost jeopardizing the game.
The Cowboys (3-7) are on pace for their first losing season since 2020, the defence isn't close to as dominant as last season, and the offence is completely out of sync with backup QB Cooper Rush under centre.
Despite the signs, Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones insists that head coach Mike McCarthy has not lost the locker room.
"Well, that's nonsense, losing the locker room," Jones said. "... I don't worry one ounce about losing anything as far as in the family of losing a team."
All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb echoed a similar sentiment.
"We got to play to the guys that's lining up next to us, to our left and our right and then just put them before yourself," said Lamb. "It's not so much selfishness, it's about being selfless, and I feel like at that moment that's when we'll play better, we'll gel together and everything will take care of itself."
The Cowboys trailed 14-0 after the first quarter, allowing the Texans to march down the field on two of their three drives.
Dallas ran a fake punt from its own 33-yard line on its first drive of the game and failed miserably. They become the first team to trail by at least 20 points in six consecutive home games, and the frustration from the fans to everyone in the organization is reaching its boiling point.
"It's very frustrating. It's frustrating for everybody, frustrating for players, frustrating for coaches," McCarthy, who is in the final year of his contract, said. "We're not playing well enough, executing well enough, coaching well enough to overcome some of the mistakes we're making at the critical times of the game."
Not playing, executing or coaching well enough often can get coaches fired in the NFL. Through 11 weeks, two teams have already made coaching changes.
On the bright side, the Cowboys are primed for a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft. Whether McCarthy will be there for the pick is up for debate, but for now the coach and the team are preparing for a divisional matchup against the Jayden Daniels-led Washington Commanders.
