Stephon Gilmore has announced that he and the New England Patriots are parting ways.
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce my goodbye to this great fan base,” Gilmore wrote in a statement. “We enjoyed so much success together and you have been an incredible inspiration for my achievements.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the two sides could not agree on a contract restructure, leading to the split.
The 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year, Gilmore has spent the last four seasons with the Patriots after beginning his career in Buffalo. He has yet to play a game this year due to a quad injury but Schefter reports that he should be recovered soon and multiple teams are expected to bid for his services.
Gilmore’s most famous play with the Patriots came in Super Bowl LIII when he intercepted a pass from Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff with under five minutes to play to seal the victory for the Patriots.
