San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is not expected to play the season opener against the Chicago Bears after sustaining a groin injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 28-year-old suffered a groin injury on Sept. 5 and did not practice for the remainder of the week. He was previously listed as questionable to play Sunday's regular season opener.
Kittle, drafted in the fifth round in 2017 by San Francisco, has earned three Pro-Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl appearance with the 49ers. In 2020, Kittle signed a five-year, $75 million contact with an $18 million signing bonus, making him the highest paid tight end in the NFL.
