The Chicago Bears are reportedly hiring Kerry Joseph to be their next quarterbacks coach, according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero.
Joseph was known for his versatility, spending his first five years in the NFL as a safety for both the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks, before making the move north of the border to play quarterback in the CFL. The former Grey Cup Champion won a ring with Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2007 before returning to NFL and the Seahawks in 2020, where he spent four seasons as an assistant wide receivers and quarterback coach.
The move would reunite Joseph with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who was hired by the Bears on Jan. 23. Waldron was Seattle's offensive coordinator from 2021-2023, where he spent a season with Russell Wilson before revitalizing Geno Smith's career.
Chicago are in possession of the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and can have their pick at draft that many have touted to be filled with generational talent, with quarterback Caleb Williams being the odds-on-favourite to be the first player selected on the night. The Bears still have quarterback Justin Fields under contract, who many have thought could be the future for the franchise.
General manager Ryan Poles has not committed to a direction with Fields, or their pick, stating that he expects their process to commitment will take "all the way to April."
