The Kansas City Chiefs have locked up star defensive tackle Chris Jones on a record-breaking five-year deal that includes $95 million in guarantees, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday.
Schefter reports that the deal is expected to be the highest average salary ever given to a defensive tackle.
The previous high was the $31.67 million per year that Los Angeles Rams superstar Aaron Donald is making.
Jones seemed to confirm the deal from his personal social media account shortly before Schefter's report:
The 30-year-old defensive lineman has been a key piece of a Chiefs team that just won its third Super Bowl in the past five seasons and will be going for a three-peat in 2024-25.
Jones has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the past five seasons, and was named a first-team All-Pro the last two years.
He has played his entire eight-year career with the Chiefs after being selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Jones had 10.5 sacks last season, bringing his career total to 75.5 sacks in 123 games with Kansas City.
