The Kansas City Chiefs are churning through kickers.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Chiefs signed kicker Matthew Wright to their active roster and placed kicker Spencer Shrader on injury reserve Wednesday.
Wright, 28, has played for five teams in his five-year NFL career, converting at an 85.5 per cent rate, and made his career best 59-yard field goal while kicking for the Chiefs in 2022.
Kansas City’s long-time starter, Harrison Butker, was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 15 after undergoing surgery to trim the meniscus in his left knee. Butker is 18-for-20 on field goals this season, his longest being 53 yards.
Shrader sustained a right hamstring injury and was unable to practice on Tuesday or Wednesday. The 25-year-old is five-for-five with a long of 45 this season over four games split between the Chiefs, New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts.
