Houston Texans quarterback is "extremely unhappy" with the organization after not being involved in the hiring process for the team's new general manager, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Watson was led to believe he would be consulted as the Texans searched for a new head coach and GM, but was not looped in as Houston officially hired Nick Caserio for the latter position on Thursday.
Caserio has spent the last 20 seasons with the Patriots and has been the director of player personnel in New England since 2008. He replaces Bill O’Brien, who was the team’s coach and general manager before he was fired after this season’s 0-4 start.
Per Rapoport, Watson has not spoken to Texans executive leadership in recent days, though they have tried to contact him.
This is the second consecutive off-season in which Watson has felt disappointment with the front office. Houston traded superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals in March without informing Watson. The quarterback feels "infinitely more bothered" this year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Texans posted an underwhelming 4-12 season in 2020, though Watson enjoyed tremendous personal success, throwing for a league-best 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
