New York Jets guard and Canadian medical doctor Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has tested positive for COVID-19, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Duvernay-Tardif, who was a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, skipped the 20202 regular season to work on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. For his efforts on and off the field, he shared the 2020 Canadian Athlete of the Year award with soccer star Alphonso Davies.
The 30-year-old Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., native graduated from McGill University with a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery in 2018 after starring as a lineman at the school from 2010-13.
He was acquired by the Jets in November and has played in the team’s last six games, starting five of them. Duvernay-Tardif is one of 19 Jets players currently in the NFL’s COVID protocols, along with head coach Robert Saleh. The team hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
