The Detroit Lions have been hit hard by injuries this season but at least one important player has not given up hope on a return in the playoffs.
Running back David Montgomery has chosen to rehab a knee injury instead of undergoing surgery with the hopes that he can return at some point in the post-season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Thursday.
Montgomery, who forms a formidable running duo with Jahmyr Gibbs, injured his MCL in Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Lions did not put Montgomery on injured reserve earlier in the week, keeping the door open for a return.
"I hope so," Montgomery said at a fundraising event earlier this week when asked if he will return this season. "We're kinda working through the logistics right now... we're just staying positive and praying and allowing God to do what God does best."
Montgomery has 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns as well as 341 receiving yards this season.
