Report: Mike McCarthy scheduled to meet with Bears on Wednesday

The Chicago Bears will get the first crack at Mike McCarthy on Wednesday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The 61-year-old reportedly joins a growing list of candidates to replace former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, who was dismissed in November.

He instantly became one of the more coveted head coaching candidates after Jerry Jones' Cowboys made the decision not to extend him on Monday.

It was announced that he would not return after the two sides failed to engage in any meaningful discussions on a new contract.

He was at the helm for three consecutive 12-5 seasons in Dallas, from 2021-2023, all marred by disappointing playoff exits.

The Cowboys missed the playoffs this season with a 7-10 record after losing Dak Prescott in Week 9 to a season-ending hamstring injury.

Hanging in the balance in Chicago is second-year quarterback Caleb Williams and the 10th overall pick in this year's NFL draft.
