Giants country, let's ride.
Russell Wilson appears to have found his next landing spot as the veteran quarterback is finalizing a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the New York Giants, per multiple reports.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Wilson can make up to $21 million with incentives.
The 10-time Pro Bowler spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, posting 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while throwing for 2,482 yards through 11 starts.
Wilson, 36, signed with the Steelers after a brief two-year stint with the Denver Broncos and an unceremonious exit. His tenure in the Mile High City began with a lucrative five-year, $242 million deal that was meant to pair him with veteran head coach Sean Payton in his return from a short hiatus, but lasted all of two seasons as Wilson was released following an 11-19 record through that span.
The former Super Bowl champ now joins a Giants QB room that, up until recently, seemed bereft of talent but is now filled with potential. New York signed another veteran snap-taker in Jameis Winston to a two-year deal just last week, and also owns the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 draft with a shot at drafting a franchise quarterback of the future. Something that appears to be a consideration per multiple reports.
None of that, however, means that Wilson will have to compete for the starting spot, at least initially. Wilson will slot into the QB. 1 role immediately, according to Pelissero.
It's a stark contrast for the Giants whose quarterback depth chart last season comprised of Daniel Jones (who was released in Week 10), Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle. Unsurprisingly, New York went 3-14 and lacklustre QB play was a catalyst for that.
While some hoped for Aaron Rodgers to make the short trip after he and the New York Jets parted ways, Wilson's pedigree matches up quite well. He holds a 121-77-1 record all time, throwing for over 46,000 yards, 350 touchdowns and 111 interceptions through 199 career games in 17 seasons.
