The Minnesota Vikings are targeting Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell as the team’s next head coach, according to multiple reports. The deal cannot be signed until after the Super Bowl.
According to both Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings have informed finalists Jim Harbaugh, Patrick Graham and Raheem Morris that they are out.
O’Connell, 36, is a former NFL quarterback and third-round draft pick, but only played in two games over the course of his five-year career.
He has coached in Cleveland, San Francisco, Washington and most recently, Los Angeles, where he has the chance to help the team win a Super Bowl on Feb. 13.
O’Connell would replace long-time coach Mike Zimmer and become the 10th head coach in Vikings franchise history.
