Add injury to insult for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Star defensive end T.J. Watt left for the locker room early during the Steelers' Sunday game against the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle injury.
Watt appeared to step awkwardly during a pass rush in the second half and immediately went down.
Trainers seemed to examine his ankle on the bench before Watt returned to the locker room.
After the game, Watt informed reporters that he had rolled his ankle, but his X-rays had come back negative, according to The Athletic's Mike DeFabo.
Meanwhile, head coach Mike Tomlin described it as a low-ankle injury and said he would provide an update on Watt the next time he speaks with the media.
At 10-3 entering Week 15, the Steelers are on track to clinch a playoff spot soon. But any potential loss of Watt could do damage to their hopes once there.
Watt, 30, was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has been a finalist three other times.
Through 13 games this season, he led the league with five forced fumbles and 17 tackles for loss while also recording 9.5 sacks.
