Death, taxes, and Bill Belichick being the head coach of the New England Patriots.
Those were the absolutes in life for the past 24 years, but not anymore. The two sides have mutually agreed to part ways, as announced by the team on Thursday.
The Patriots finished this season with a 4-13 record, the lowest win total in any season under Belichick, and seemingly decided it was time to move on.
During his tenure, the 71-year-old led the team to Six Super Bowl victories, 30 playoff wins, 17 division titles (11 consecutive), and an overall record of 226-120.
Whether you appreciated New England's dominance in the AFC East for two decades, were tormented by their Super Bowl comebacks as Seahawks and Falcons fans were, or were some of the few who got the better of his teams like the Giants and Eagles did, it seemed like most people had an opinion on Belichick.
Here are some of the best reactions on social media to the news of Belichick and the Patriots separating after almost a quarter century:
Even with all he's achieved to this point, Belichick doesn't appear ready to step away from football just yet. All signs seem to indicate that he wants to keep coaching, and for what it's worth, he still has an opportunity to set more records.
Belichick is 15 wins shy of surpassing Don Shula (347) for most wins by a head coach in NFL history.
