Quarterback Ryan Tannehill will start for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, stepping in for hobbled rookie Will Levis, head coach Mike Vrabel announced Friday.
Tannehill came into the season as the Titans' top QB, but after getting hurt in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 15, it opened the door for Levis.
Since then, Levis had started nine games for Tennessee, leading the Titans to a 3-6 record while passing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
The rookie was likely going to get the start through the remainder of the regular season for the Titans before he injured his foot against the Houston Texans in Week 15 and was carted off.
Tannehill started in place of the injured rookie against the Seattle Seahawks in the next game and had to come back in against the Texans in Week 17 after Levis lasted just six throws before leaving with the same foot issue.
The 11-year veteran completed 34 passes for 320 yards through the last two weeks, with no touchdowns and a fumble. On the season, Tannehill has racked up 1,448 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions.
Tennessee might be out of the AFC playoff race at 5-11 but has the potential to play spoiler within the AFC South Division. The Texans, Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts are all tied at 9-7, and have a chance to claim the division title and a playoff spot.
Jacksonville will have its own QB questions going into Sunday as Jaguars starter Trevor Lawrence has been dealing with a shoulder injury. They've yet to confirm if he'll start, and head coach Doug Pederson said they may wait until game time to make a decision.
