Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gets heated during radio interview

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has never been one to pull punches, especially when his team is underperforming.

He certainly didn’t hold back on Tuesday during one of his weekly radio interviews on 105.3 The FAN in Dallas when he was asked about the state of the team and some of the mistakes made along the way.

When hosts Shan and RJ asked Jones about the Cowboys’ off-season, Jones went off.

“That’s not your job,” Jones said. “I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding. You’re not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this meeting I’m going to today with 32 teams here, you’re geniuses.”

Ahead of the season, Jones and the Cowboys agreed on a record four-year, $240-million contract for QB Dak Prescott and a four-year $136-million deal for superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

However, after the departure of running back Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans, the team didn’t do much to address the spot, signing Dalvin Cook and former Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott, both of whom looked to be in the sunset of their primes.

Despite handing out those mega-deals, the Cowboys have yet to give one to three-time All-Pro outside linebacker Micah Parsons, who is in the fourth year of his rookie deal with a fifth-year club option for next season.

“You really think you’re gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I’ve done wrong without going over the rights?” Jones said. “Listen, we both know we’re talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I’m very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I’m sick about what happened Sunday.”

On Sunday — which coincidentally fell on Jones’ 82nd birthday — the Dallas Cowboys were lambasted, 47-9, by the Detroit Lions. It was the team’s third-straight loss at home this season and the fourth since losing to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs last season.

Overall, Dallas is 3-3 this season and sits third in the NFC East. The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7 but travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football.
