Jets-Giants clash remembered as ‘worst/best/most awful’ game

What happens when you take the two NFL teams representing New York and put them on the same field without their No. 1 quarterbacks?

Turns out, you get an unforgettable afternoon — though it had nothing to do with good football.

The New York Jets’ 13-10 overtime win over the New York Giants on Sunday was described by the New York Post as ‘the mess at the Meadowlands‘ and an ‘all-time collapse’ for the Giants.

With Aaron Rodgers of the Jets and Daniel Jones of the Giants injured, Zach Wilson and Tyrod Taylor were the respective quarterbacks — with the latter exiting during the first half because of a rib injury.

That put the Giants’ Tommy DeVito into an NFL game for the first time — and he didn’t complete a pass until overtime. The host Giants ran on almost every play once DeVito entered — prompting the crowd to chant at one point, ‘Let him throw it.’

Incredibly, the Giants finished the game with minus-nine net passing yards. And yet they were winning 10-7 with less than 30 seconds left before missing a 35-yard field goal, opening the door for the Jets to race down the field, spike the ball with one second left and tie the game.

The Jets then won it with a 33-yard field goal in OT after the teams combined for a whopping 24 punts.

Here’s a look at some of the reaction on social media.
