Jets spoil perfect night for New York

Leave it to the New York Jets to ruin a neat little feat for the Big Apple.

On a Monday that the New York Post called an “insane NY Sports Armageddon,” the Jets prevented the biggest city in the U.S. from having a perfect day.

New York-area teams went 5-1, with the Yankees and Mets winning their respective LCS games and the Rangers, Islanders and New Jersey Devils prevailing in NHL regular-season action.

The Jets, who have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL at 13 seasons, found yet another unique way to lose a game in a 23-20 setback against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

The Bills, who love to point out they are the only NFL team that actually plays home games in New York state, poked fun at the East Rutherford, N.J.-based Jets afterward.

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who threw for a touchdown on a Hail Mary on the final play of the first half, was intercepted on a deep pass late in the second half, clearing the way for the Bills to run out the clock.

There seemed to be a penalty on every play in the poorly played game between the top two teams in the sketchy AFC East. Buffalo and New York combined for the most penalty yards in an NFL game this season.

The defeat capped a rough week for the Jets (2-4), who fired head coach Robert Saleh in the leadup to the Monday nighter.

Under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets showed flashes of life on offence, but couldn’t seal the deal.
