Rams’ Cooper Kupp exits vs. Cardinals with ankle injury

It’s gone from bad to worse for the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver room.

Rams star receiver Cooper Kupp exited Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and is doubtful to return with an ankle injury, the team reported.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter after Kupp caught a pass over the middle for 24 yards. He got sandwiched by two Cardinals defenders on the tackle and seemed to get his ankle caught in a weird spot on the play. He went back to the team’s locker room under his own weight but was seen limping.

The former offensive player of the year had four catches for 37 yards before exiting the game.

Kupp, 31, struggled with injuries last season and finished with only 59 receptions for 737 yards and five touchdowns. However, he looked to be back in a rhythm in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, finishing with 14 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams’ depth at wide receiver was already being tested after last year’s breakout receiver for L.A., Puka Nacua, suffered a knee injury in Week 1 and is expected to miss 5-7 weeks according to Schefter.
