Report: Browns sign former Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney

After a rough start to the season, the Cleveland Browns are looking to bolster their offence.

The team signed receiver Kadarius Toney on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The former Kansas City Chiefs receiver decided to join the Browns after visiting the Seattle Seahawks and other teams who expressed interest. The Browns will have the 25-year-old start on the practice roster and ease him into the offence.

Toney was released by Kansas City after final roster cuts. He was initially selected 20th overall by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft before getting traded to the Chiefs for a sixth-round pick.

Last season, Toney appeared in 13 games for the Chiefs and caught 27 passes on 38 targets for 169 yards and one touchdown. His 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII helped the Chiefs earn a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The move comes after the Browns offence struggled against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Quarterback Deshaun Watson went 24-for-45 for 169 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

The team also lost tight end David Njoku to a high-ankle sprain, which will keep him out week-to-week.
