Around the NHL: Kings’ Vilardi says he’s ready to return for Game 2 vs. Oilers

Los Angeles Kings forward Gabriel Vilardi told reporters on Tuesday he’ll be ready to play for Game 2 Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers.

Vilardi has been out since March 26 with an upper-body injury.

The 23-year-old Vilardi had a career-high 41 points (23 goals, 18 assists) in 63 games this season.

L.A. selected Vilardi in the first round (11th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Erik Kallgren from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies to serve as the team’s emergency backup for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With Matt Murray still sidelined with a concussion and Joseph Woll serving as Ilya Samsonov‘s backup, Källgren would be called in if either goaltender is unable to play.

In 24 games for the Marlies, the 26-year-old Källgren has a 10-9-2 record along with a 3.26 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage.

Källgren has also appeared in 10 games for the Maple Leafs this season going 3-2-4 while posting a 2.67 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

The Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game 1 of their opening-round series Tuesday night. Watch at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sportsnet or SN NOW.
