The Ottawa Senators will have the seventh overall pick at the 2022 NHL Draft after the Draft Lottery results were revealed Tuesday.
Before the draft lottery, the Senators were ranked seventh, with a 6.5 per cent chance of moving up to the No. 1 pick. Because of rules instituted for this year's lottery, no team could move up more than 10 slots, but being inside that, the Senators had a shot at consensus No. 1 pick Shane Wright.
With the seventh pick, the Senators may be able to land a player like Jonathan Lekkerimaki, a right winger with Djurgarden's under-20 team, according to our mock draft: Out ill since early March, it will be interesting to see if he plays in the worlds, and if so, will he be able to keep pace?
The Senators had a disappointing – emotional, with the passing of owner Eugene Melnyk – season, and never really threatened for a playoff spot.
The Senators finished seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 33-42-7 record for 73 points, 27 back of the last wild-card spot claimed by the Washington Capitals.
The 2022 NHL Draft is July 7-8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
