In honour of NHL free agency, Kevin Michie takes a closer look at some of the worst contracts Canadian teams have ever handed out, including Milan Lucic's massive deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

It's hard to believe the last phase of the 2022-23 NHL season begins today, July 1, with the opening of free agency.

This is a page-turning day from one season to the next as contracts have elapsed, new clauses or bonuses have kicked in, and so the general managers around the league have the most flexibility re-shape their teams for 2023-24.
