Sleep, apparently, is overrated.
Many hockey fans decided to stay up late Thursday night into early Friday morning, at least in the Eastern time zone, to watch the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes play almost seven full periods of hockey.
Matthew Tkachuk finally ended the sixth-longest game in NHL history when he scored with 12.7 seconds left to give the Panthers a 3-2 win in the fourth overtime in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final.
The game ended a few minutes before the clock hit 2 a.m. ET -- and started at 8 p.m. ET.
Here's a look at how the hockey community reacted during the unforgettable contest.
