After being traded to the Colorado Avalanche last season, Casey Mittelstadt is staying in Denver.
The Avalanche announced they have re-signed the American forward to a three-year extension on Tuesday. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reports the average annual value is $5.75 million.
Mittelstadt was a pending restricted free agent.
“Casey was a great fit for our lineup and a big contributor to our team down the stretch and in the playoffs,” said Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland. “His game has improved every season and he took yet another big jump this past year. We believe he has an even higher level to reach and it was important to get him signed for several years. Casey is an exciting, playmaking center with good vision and hands and at just 25 years old is going to be a big part of our team moving forward.”
Mittelstadt, 25, had four goals and six assists in 18 games with the Avalanche after he was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres for defenceman Bowen Byram.
Overall, Mittelstadt finished with 59 points in 80 games last season.
Picked eighth overall by the Sabres in 2017, Mittelstadt has 66 goals and 130 assists for 196 points in 357 career games.
