The Colorado Avalanche signed backup goalie Pavel Francouz to a two-year extension, the team announced on Saturday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team.
Francouz, 31, is 10-3-1 this season with a team-leading 2.46 goals-against average and .920 save percentage while primarily backing up No. 1 Darcy Kuemper. Francouz had a hot start to the calendar year with a seven-game winning streak, from Jan. 8-28, that included two straight shutouts and made him the first Avs netminder to post consecutive shutouts since Patrick Roy did it in 2003.
A native of Plzen, Czech Republic, Francouz missed the first 24 games with injury before making his season debut on Dec. 16 against Nashville, his first NHL start since Aug. 30, 2020, which was Game 4 of the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.
In 50 career games, Francouz is 31-12-5, with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
Francouz was in the last season of a contract worth $2 million AAV with the Avalanche.
