Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar will not play Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings, head coach Jared Bednar told reporters.
Bednar also said that he did not know if the 25-year-old defenceman would be sidelined further than Sunday's game.
Makar did not play the final minutes of regulation or in overtime during the Avalanche's shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday evening. Bednar told media after the game that Makar was dealing with something and was therefore unavailable.
Bednar did not disclose if Makar suffered an injury during the game.
Defenceman Sam Malinski will slot into the lineup in Makar's absence.
Makar has seven goals and 34 points in 24 games so far this season and is an early contender for the Norris Trophy, recognizing the NHL's top defenceman.
