Colorado Avalanche defenceman Devon Toews has entered the NHL COVID-19 protocol, the team announced Tuesday.
Toews is one of several NHL players to enter protocol on Tuesday, but the only one from the Avalanche so far.
The 27-year-old is on pace for a career year with 20 points through 16 games in his second season with the Avalanche. He was named the NHL’s third star of the week on Monday.
The Avalanche have also called up 2020 first-round pick Justin Barron. The 20-year-old defenceman featured on Canada’s world junior team in 2021 and has nine points through 14 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles.
Barron could make his NHL debut if he plays in Colorado’s game against the New York Rangers Tuesday.
