Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is reportedly on his way back to Denver to continue his rehabilitation process according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
"Gabriel Landeskog and his family are back in the area permanently now after he has been recovering from his knee injury," Friedman said on Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada's Saturday Headlines.
Landeskog, 31, is projected to miss the entirety of the 2023-24 season after getting cartilage transplant surgery in his knee back in May. The captain also missed the 2022-23 season dealing with a knee injury.
He hasn't played since hoisting the cup after Game 6 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"That doesn't mean anyone should think he's getting anywhere closer to returning to the NHL," Friedman added. "I believe he does hope to resume some light skating soon, but that's still to be determined.
"No word on when or if he's able to resume his NHL career."
In April, Landeskog said he was confident that he would be able to play again at some point.
“When? I don’t know,” Landeskog said. “It’s been a long road up to this point, but I’m hopeful and I’m optimistic and confident that eventually we’ll come out on the other side of this. But we haven’t quite gotten past it yet obviously."
The Stockholm native was named the Avalanche captain in the 2012-13 season, his second year in the NHL. He has played all of his 11 years in the league in Colorado.
He has 248 goals and 571 points in 738 games for the Avalanche.
Over the course of their Stanley Cup run in 2022, he notched 11 goals and 22 points in 20 games.
