After an 8-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, Colorado Avalanche fans have received more bad news — this time about star left wing Jonathan Drouin.
On Wednesday, Colorado head coach Jared Bednar told Altitude Sports Radio that the 29-year-old will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Later on Wednesday, the Avalanche announced the recall of Ivan Ivan, Nikolai Kovalenko, and Chase Bradley from AHL Colorado.
Drouin missed the game against Tampa Bay because of an upper-body injury. It's unclear when he sustained the injury, and if it's related to the ailment he suffered in the season opener that forced him out of 16 games.
The Saint-Agathe, Que. native had only returned to action on Nov. 15.
In Drouin's most recent appearance, a 7-4 win over the Florida Panthers on Saturday, he played a season-high 23:37 and scored twice on four shots.
The winger was selected in the first round, third overall, by the Lightning in the 2013 NHL Draft. He joined the Montréal Canadiens in 2017 before suiting up for the Avalanche at the start of the 2023-24 NHL season.
In 569 total career games, Drouin has netted 98 goals and recorded 243 assists.
