The Colorado Avalanche won't be counting on their captain for the remainder of the calendar year.
Gabriel Landeskog underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in Minnesota on Tuesday and is expected to miss 12 weeks, head coach Jared Bednar confirmed.
It remains unclear whether the surgery was made on the same knee Landeskog had last year. Asked by a reporter about it, Bednar answered: “No. He had this one yesterday.”
Landeskog has not yet played this season due to what was previously announced as a lower-body injury. He had knee surgery in March and missed the remainder of the regular season but was able to return in time to help the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup, contributing 22 points in 20 post-season games.
When he returns to the lineup, this will be Landeskog's 12th season in the NHL.
