  • Barry Trotz tells NHL teams he won’t rush decision on next coaching job

The Barry Trotz Watch is going to have to wait a little bit longer, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Speaking during the 32 Thoughts portion of Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday, Friedman says the much-coveted NHL coach is believed to have met and interviewed with Winnipeg, Detroit, Philadelphia, Vegas and could still speak with the Dallas Stars.

"From what I understand, Barry Trotz has let it be known to teams that he's not in a hurry to make his choice," Friedman said. "He won't make his decision until he's sure it's right for himself and his family."

Trotz, 59, won the Stanley Cup in 2018 with the Washington Capitals and is considered to be the top coach available on the market, which has left many teams awaiting his decision before they decide how to proceed with their coaching vacancies.

The Winnipeg native has won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's top coach twice, most recently with the New York Islanders, who fired him earlier this month.
