Blackhawks expect Patrick Kane to make decision on future soon

As the Chicago Blackhawks wait on a decision from Patrick Kane on his future, general manager Kyle Davison expects to hear something soon.

Speaking to reporters Sunday, Davidson said the team has been in communication with Kane and his agent and will work with whatever decision longtime Blackhawk makes.

Kane's future has been a major talking point as the 34-year-old is a pending free agent but also has a no-movement clause so any trade would need to be approved by him.

Davidson told reporters that he isn't disappointed with having to wait for Kane to make his wishes known.

“Just trying to figure things out,” Kane said back on Feb. 10 when asked about his future. “Probably make a decision in the next couple weeks here and just go with that.”

Kane made it known that the New York Rangers were a team that he had his eye on after seeing they traded for Vladimir Tarasenko and seemed disappointed that a potential reunion with former teammate Artemi Panarin might be off the table.

"If things were going to happen … that was a team that I was definitely looking at,” Kane said. “Yeah, it seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal.”

Kane's production on the ice has seen a decline as he has scored 11 goals and 37 points in 51 games after he had 26 goals and 92 points in 78 games last season.

When asked if the constant discussion about his future has impacted his play, Kane admitted that it hasn't really weighed on him while he's on the ice.

“Maybe like subconsciously,” Kane said.

“But I don’t think it’s anything that I think about when I’m on the ice. You’re trying to go out there, you’re trying to play well, and you don’t really think about that other stuff when you’re playing.”
