The Chicago Blackhawks had already made two first-round picks Friday but decided to move up for a third.
Chicago sent two second-round picks (34th and 50th overall) to the Carolina Hurricanes for the 27th overall pick and selected Marek Vanacker.
Vanacker is an 18-year-old forward from Delhi, Ont. In 2023-24, he scored 36 goals and 82 points for the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs.
The six-foot-one forward was ranked as the No. 27 draft prospect by Sportsnet's Jason Bukala.
