Columbus Blue Jackets backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo could be a depth goalie option for a team looking to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup.
Coming off his 28-save performance in the Blue Jackets' 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars and his 37-save performance against the Winnipeg Jets, there is renewed interest in the 28-year-old Finnish netminder, who is now fully recovered from a previous hip injury.
"Since early December, Korpisalo has been sneaky good," Sportsnet's Jeff Marek said on the 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada. "He's running an adjusted save percentage, going back to early December, of a 1.9 per cent saves above expected. That puts him above netminders like Ilya Sorokin, Jake Oettinger and Igor Shesterkin."
Korpisalo is on an expiring contract that carries an AAV of $1.3 million, making him an inexpensive option for a team looking to bolster their goaltending tandem ahead of the March 3 trade deadline.
The native of Pori, Finland is sporting a .910 save percentage and a 3.23 goals-against average on a Blue Jackets team that currently sits 30th in the NHL.
