Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins left Friday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after the first period due to illness.
Merzlikins, who the team said was questionable to return, was not on the ice for the start of the second period as Spencer Martin took over in net.
Merzlikins stopped 12 of 14 shots during the opening frame as the Blue Jackets trailed 2-1.
The 29-year-old from Riga, Latvia, entered Friday's game with a 7-8-6 record, 3.20 goals-against average and .907 save percentage on the season.
The Blue Jackets defeated the Maple Leafs 6-5 in overtime.
