Dec. 31, 2024, will be a day Cam Fowler never forgets.
The veteran St. Louis Blues defenceman celebrated his 1,000th NHL game by skating outdoors at Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic. And to top it off, Fowler opened the scoring in the game with a power-play goal early in the first period.
But he didn't stop there, as the recent St. Louis trade acquisition buried his team's fifth goal of the game from the blue line in the second period.
"It's incredible, I'm really happy for the young man because he's just been terrific for us," Blues head coach Jim Montgomery told TNT's Darren Pang during the game's broadcast.
Fowler, 33, is the first player to ever skate in his 1,000th game outdoors and the 10th defenceman to score in their 1,000th game, according to Sportsnet Stats.
The 15-year NHL veteran skated in 991 games with the Anaheim Ducks before being traded to the Blues on Dec. 14.
He now has 99 goals and 464 points in his 1,000 games.
