One of the highlights of Tuesday's Winter Classic at Wrigley Field in Chicago was when the captains of the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues squared off for a fight at centre ice.
The scrap between Nick Foligno and Brayden Schenn came on the first face-off after the Blues extended the lead to 5-1 late in the second. In the moment, most people watching assumed Foligno initiated the bout to give his struggling team a spark but after the game, Schenn confirmed it was his idea.
"You never know how many times you'll get to scrap at centre ice against another tough customer at Wrigley Field," Schenn told Darren Pang of TNT after the game. "I wanted it for myself, fighting at Wrigley... will have that memory forever."
TNT added a funny twist to the bout during the game when the broadcast showed Foligno and Schenn talking during warmups, confirming with each other that the two teams would shake hands after the game under the lights at the historic ballpark.
And the two sides did just that after the Blues sealed a 6-2 victory.
