The St. Louis Blues have signed veteran defender Nick Leddy to a four-year deal worth $16 million, the club announced Wednesday.
Leddy was acquired by the Blues at this past trade deadline in a five-piece swap with the Detroit Red Wings.
Originally drafted 16th overall by the Minnesota Wild back in 2009, Leddy began his career in Chicago after a trade before his pro debut — he spent four years with the Blackhawks, winning the Stanley Cup with the club in 2013.
The veteran then logged seven years with the New York Islanders, amassing 243 points through 518 games for the team, while averaging more than 21 minutes a night during his tenure.
He began this past season with the Detroit Red Wings after a July 2021 trade to Steve Yzerman's club, suiting up for 55 games with the team before being traded at the deadline to St. Louis in a deal that saw Luke Witkowski join the Blues, and Oskar Sundqvist, Jake Walman, and a 2023 second-round pick head to the Red Wings.
Through 20 games with the Blues in 2021-22, Leddy averaged 21 minutes of ice, posted eight points, and emerged as a key piece for St. Louis's blue line.
The 31-year-old will earn $4 million per year on his new contract with the club, after playing out a seven-year deal that paid him $5.5 million per season.
