Amazon Prime Video is digging the heck in for a second season.
The streamer announced Thursday morning that it has greenlit Season 2 of its hockey docuseries Faceoff: Inside the NHL, produced by Box To Box and NHL Productions.
Building on its behind-the-scenes peek into the lives of NHL stars such as Connor McDavid, William Nylander and Matthew Tkachuk in Season 1, Prime Video will release another six episodes in 2025.
“We’re thrilled to bring fans another season of this compelling series,” stated Prime Video’s head of content in Canada, Shaun Alperin.
“The first season of Faceoff resonated strongly with our audience, and we’re excited to continue our partnership with Box To Box and NHL Productions to deliver more of the raw emotion and behind-the-scenes action that hockey fans crave.”
While the full cast of players and personalities who have signed on for Season 2 will be announced later, Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk will feature prominently in the show.
The younger Tkachuk cameoed in big brother Matthew’s Season 1 showcase as he closely followed his sibling’s run to the Stanley Cup championship in Florida.
Considering the drama surrounding the personable Brady Tkachuk and the Senators’ bid to end their playoff drought, it should make for good TV.
According to a press release, Season 2 “will delve deeper into the personal and professional lives of NHL stars offering viewers a 360-degree view of their lives both on and off the ice.”
Expect more interviews from teammates, coaches and family members. Plus the usual production standard Box To Box set with F1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing.
“It introduced a new side of the game to a new set of fans, right?” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. “And that's the goal always — to expand the fan base and make points of connection for people not necessarily tuning in to watch hockey every day.”
Faceoff is executive produced by James Gay-Rees, Paul Martin and Hillary Olsen for Box To Box; Steve Mayer for NHL Productions; and showrunner Daniel Amigone.
