The Boston Bruins are assigning forward Matt Poitras to Team Canada for the world junior hockey championship, the NHL team announced Monday.
Canada left one forward spot open when announcing its roster last week in hopes of getting a player back from the NHL.
Poitras, 19, has appeared in 27 games with Boston this season, recording five goals and eight assists for 13 points. He will return to the Bruins after the tournament, according to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic.
The five-foot-11, 180-pound forward was selected by Boston in the second round (54th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Poitras will join Team Canada in Sweden on Tuesday ahead of exhibition play.
Canada opens the tournament Dec. 26 against Finland.
