Charlie McAvoy left the Boston Bruins' game on Thursday night after suffering an upper-body injury, the team announced.
After an overtime win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, coach Jim Montgomery said he didn't believe the injury was serious.
McAvoy collided with teammate Patrice Bergeron during the second period of Boston’s game against the Maple Leafs and was slow to get up.
The Bruins stalwart remained on the bench for a brief period, however, ultimately did not play the final nine minutes of the second period and eventually went down the Bruins' tunnel.
Boston’s top-flight defender has been an enormous part of their historic season, a staple on the team’s top pairing and the team’s most potent offensive defenceman on a per-game basis.
Since missing time earlier this season following offseason shoulder surgery, the 25-year-old has come into his own. In 63 games, the Long Beach, New York native has seven goals and 50 points.
