Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand is expected to be out for about six months after undergoing hip arthroscopy and labral repair on both hips on Friday, the team announced.
The procedure was done by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
The 34-year-old Marchand had 80 points (32 goals and 48 assists) in 70 games this season before adding four goals and seven assists in Boston's seven-game loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Marchand has 795 points (351 goals, 444 assists in 874 career NHL games, all with Boston.
The Halifax native is a two-time all-star and was part of the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning team in 2011.
