Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy received a five-minute match penalty and was ejected from Monday's game after he hit Florida Panthers defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the head.
Ekman-Larsson went down initially but remained in the game after the hit.
The illegal check occurred in the third period shortly after McAvoy scored the game-tying goal.
The 25-year-old defenceman has been suspended once in his seven years with the Bruins when he got one game for a hit to the head of Blue Jackets forward Josh Anderson.
With his goal, McAvoy now has two goals and six assists in nine games.
Boston also was without defenceman Matt Grzelcyk for the majority of this game after he left the contest with an upper-body injury. After the game Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said the defenceman could be out a couple of weeks.
The Bruins went on to win Monday's game in overtime.
